Ingredients

  • cup of yellow onion diced
  • 1 to 1.25 pounds of ground sirloin you may also like to use half ground pork
  • 2 14.5 ounce cans of diced tomatoes or whole tomatoes
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 1 29 ounce can of tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon dried basil
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or a little more if you like it sweeter

Instructions

  • In a dutch oven begin sautéing ground sirloin (you could also use half ground pork as well), add in onion and cook until done. Add in wine and tomatoes (if you use whole tomatoes smash in a bowl with hands before adding) and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper and sugar. Cook for at least two hours. Ok you can cook less time by I think it is best cooked all afternoon.
  • Serve over your favorite pasta with grated fresh parmesan cheese on top and a crusty garlic bread.
