  • cup diced onion
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • ½ to 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ tablespoon chili powder

Bring to a simmer and cook for about 15 minutes or until the sauce thickens to desired consistency.
  • Serve over prepared hot dogs and enjoy!

Notes

This recipe makes about 4 cups of hot dog sauce.
  • Drain the ground beef after cooking to remove any grease.
  • To get a really fine beef texture use a fork to mash the beef until desired texture is achieved. You can even add in the beef broth and continue to work with the fork for a super fine texture.
  • Start the onions just ahead of the ground beef if you have kids that don't like to see onions! Or you can even grate them into the sauce and they won't even see them at all.
  • Out of tomato sauce? Use tomato paste and a cup of water.
  • If you are watching your sodium intake you may want to adjust the salt in the recipe to your taste. You can also use low sodium beef broth or water as a substitute.
