Instructions
Slow Cooker Instructions
In a skillet or Ninja 3-in-1 cooker, saute onion & lean ground beef (salt and pepper to taste). When the hamburger is about halfway done, add in sliced hot dogs. If using a skillet, transfer the meat to the crockpot after it is done cooking.
To the slow cooker, add beans. Then add brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, molasses, and garlic powder. Stir until combined.
Put on the lid and cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours.
Stovetop Instructions
In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the onion and ground beef (season with salt and pepper to taste) until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain if needed. Add the hot dogs and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until slightly browned and the ground beef is fully cooked.
Stir in the beans, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, molasses, and garlic powder. Bring everything to a low boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens up and everything is heated through.
Oven Baked Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, cook the onion and ground beef (seasoned with salt and pepper to taste) over medium heat until browned. Drain if needed. Add the hot dogs and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until slightly browned and the ground beef is fully cooked.
Stir in the beans, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, molasses, and garlic powder. Transfer to a greased 9x13 baking dish if not using an oven-safe pot.
Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes until bubbly and the sauce has thickened.
Notes
If you prefer to use only hot dogs for a more traditional franks-and-beans, substitute another pound of hot dogs for the ground beef, or omit for a less meaty version.Storage:
Store any leftover baked beans with hot dogs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave for a few minutes until warmed through.
You can freeze the beans, too. Place the cooled beans into an airtight container and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
This is also the perfect recipe to make in advance. The flavors actually get better with time, so I often make it the day before.
Notes on original Recipe: I have scaled down this recipe, but the beans and flavor profiles remain the same. You can choose 2 times the recipe to make the original amount.
