Combining instant coffee and sugar to a bowl, then adding water and stirring together to make coffee.
  2. Whip Coffee: Next, use an electric hand mixer with the whisk attachment to whip the coffee until it’s doubled in size and frothy. This should take about 3-4 minutes or until stiff peaks form.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Presentation: Drizzle honey, caramel, maple syrup, or chocolate syrup in the glass for a beautiful presentation of your TikTok Coffee.
  • Cinnamon Whipped Coffee: Add a dash of cinnamon to the fluffy coffee for cozy vibes.
  • Sweeten the Milk: Add caramel, a bit of your favorite creamer, agave, or honey to your milk of choice for extra sweetness.
  • Make it Mocha: Add cocoa powder and sweetener to the milk for a mocha iced coffee.
  • Decaf: Make this whipped coffee foam with decaf instant coffee for a delicious drink without the caffeine.
  • Serve over any milk you love: Whole milk, almond milk, oat milk… any kind works. Pour it over hot or cold milk, depending on the season (or your mood).

Tips

  • Whip until stiff peaks form – The mixture is ready when it turns light, airy, and holds its shape like whipped cream. A hand mixer makes quick work of it, but you can also whisk by hand (hello, arm workout!). Commonly seen on TikTok, a milk frother or immersion blender works too, especially for single servings, and a stand mixer is great if you’re whipping up a larger batch.
  • Mix Well: Whether you serve it just topped or mixed, you want to stir the whipped coffee into the cold milk before your first sip for the best experience.
  • Use instant coffee, not ground: This recipe is specifically designed to work with instant coffee. Ground coffee or brewed coffee won’t whip, no matter how long you beat it.
  • Hot water is key: Be sure your water is hot (not just warm). It helps dissolve the sugar and coffee quickly for the best fluffy texture.
  • Adjust the sweetness: This version is lightly sweet. If you like your coffee stronger or sweeter, feel free to tweak the sugar-to-coffee ratio to your taste.

Whipped Coffee (Dalgona) FAQs

What makes dalgona coffee whip?

Sugar gives the whipped coffee structure that holds shape. So, when you use sweetener alternatives or liquid sweeteners, the whipped coffee may not be as fluffy as expected. Similarly, if you reduce the sugar measurement, you won’t get the best results.

Why is my dalgona not fluffy?

If your whipped coffee isn’t fluffy, you must continue mixing it. It takes about three to five minutes to froth correctly, and sometimes it takes a few minutes longer. Otherwise, you may not have the right amount of sugar.

Can I make whipped coffee without sugar?

Yes, it is possible to make this recipe without sugar. However, it will only hold its fluffy structure for a short time. On the other hand, using sugar gives you a fluffy texture that stays!

What is Dalgona coffee?

Dalgona coffee is a whipped coffee drink that became wildly popular online for good reason. It’s as fun to make as it is to drink! Made by whipping equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water until it’s light and frothy, then spooned over a glass of milk (hot or cold), it’s like a coffeehouse-style treat right at home. The name “Dalgona” comes from a Korean candy that has a similar light, toffee-like texture. It’s creamy, strong, and a little sweet—the perfect pick-me-up when you need something quick but satisfying.

Storage

Storage: Store Whipped Dalgona Coffee in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week! The frothy goodness will only last a few hours, though, before beginning to deflate. When ready to serve up another cup, just mix and pour.
