Personally, I kind of have a thing for s’mores. I can’t help it! I’ve made s’mores brownies, s’mores dip, and even s’mores cereal bars because around here, we don’t wait for a campfire to enjoy those flavors. But this snack mix might be the one I reach for most, because it’s the kind of thing you can throw together quickly and snack on right away.

For my version of s’mores pretzel snack mix, I use finely crushed graham crackers and melted chocolate to create a real coating, not just a dusting. And those dehydrated marshmallows hold up without getting soft or sticky, so the mix stays snackable for days!

You’re essentially getting all the flavors of a s’more in a handful of pretzels, and the salty crunch from the pretzel just makes it that much better!

Why You’ll Love This S’mores Pretzel Snack Mix

  • No baking required. This is a true no-bake snack mix. You melt chocolate in the microwave, fold everything together, and chill. That’s it, start to finish.
  • Only four ingredients. Pretzels, chocolate chips, graham crackers, and dehydrated marshmallows. Nothing too complicated!
  • Ready in about 30 minutes. Most of that time is hands-off chill time in the fridge. Active prep is maybe 10 minutes.
  • Great for sharing. This recipe makes a generous batch and travels well in a bag or container. It’s a solid option for school snacks, road trips, or setting out at a party.
  • Easy to customize. Swap the chocolate, add a pinch of sea salt, or make it in a zip-lock bag for easier cleanup. It’s forgiving and flexible.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make s'mores pretzels.
  • Pretzels: Regular pretzel twists work great here. They hold up to the chocolate coating and give you that classic salty bite in every handful.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips: Semi-sweet is the sweet spot for this recipe, not too sweet, not too bitter.
  • Graham crackers, finely crushed: About 8 full graham cracker sheets will get you to 1 cup once they’re blended. The finer you crush them, the better they’ll stick.
  • Mini dehydrated marshmallows: These are the little marshmallow bits you see in hot cocoa packets. You can find them in the baking aisle or near the hot chocolate at most major grocery stores like Walmart. They coat right alongside the graham crackers without getting gummy!

Step 1 | Melt the Chocolate

Step 2 | Add to Pretzels

Add the melted chocolate to a large mixing bowl along with the pretzels. Use a large spoon or spatula to fold the ingredients together until the pretzels are evenly coated.

Step 3 | Add Graham Crackers and Marshmallows

Add the graham crackers and marshmallows. Fold again until the pretzels are evenly coated in crushed crackers. Make sure the marshmallows are evenly distributed throughout the snack mix.

Step 4 | Chill & Serve

Cover your bowl with plastic wrap and let the snack mix chill in the fridge for 15-20 minutes, or until the chocolate is set. Serve and enjoy!

Easy Variations & Substitutions for S’mores Snack Mix

  • Swap the chocolate. Milk chocolate chips will make this sweeter and dark chocolate chips will give you a richer, less sweet bite. All three work well, so use whatever your family loves most!
  • Use regular mini marshmallows. If you can’t find dehydrated marshmallows, regular mini marshmallows will work. They’ll be a little bulkier and won’t coat as smoothly, but the flavor will still be there.
  • Add a pinch of flaky sea salt. A small sprinkle on top right before the chocolate sets is really good. The pretzels already have salt, but a little extra flaky salt on the outside cuts through the sweetness of the chocolate!
  • Mix in a zip-lock bag. Instead of folding everything in a bowl, you can split the ingredients between two gallon-sized zip-lock bags and shake to coat. Less cleanup, same result.
  • Add peanut butter chips. If you want to take this in a different direction, throw in a handful of peanut butter chips with the marshmallows. Chocolate, graham, marshmallow, and peanut butter is a really good combination.

Expert Tips

  • Crush the graham crackers as finely as possible. Run them through a blender or food processor until they’re almost like a fine powder. Larger crumbs tend to fall off the pretzels instead of sticking, so the finer they are, the better the coating will be!
  • Melt your chocolate in short intervals. Chocolate scorches fast in the microwave. Start with 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until it’s smooth.
  • Fold, don’t stir aggressively. Use a large spatula or spoon and fold the pretzels into the chocolate gently. You want them coated without breaking them up!
  • Work quickly once the chocolate is melted. Chocolate starts to set as it cools, especially once you add the room-temperature pretzels. Have your graham crackers and marshmallows measured and ready to go before you melt anything.
  • Let it chill long enough to fully set. The fridge speeds things up considerably, but make sure the chocolate is actually firm before you serve it. Fifteen to twenty minutes in the fridge usually does it!

What to Serve With No-Bake S’mores Pretzels

S’mores pretzels work great on their own, but they would be great with a side of hot chocolate or milk for the kiddos! If you’re putting together a bigger spread of snacks, try them with my Praline Snack Mix or serve them on a charcuterie board with some other sweet and salty bites.

Storage, Make-Ahead, and Freezing

Storage: Keep the pretzel s’mores in an airtight container or zip-lock bag at room temperature for up to one week. After that, the pretzels can start to lose their crunch. If your kitchen runs warm, you can store the mix in the fridge for up to two weeks. Just bring it out 10 to 15 minutes before serving so the chocolate softens slightly.

Freeze: This snack mix isn’t a great candidate for freezing. The pretzels tend to get soft and the chocolate can develop a white bloom when thawed.

Make Ahead: This recipe is actually better made a few hours ahead so the chocolate has plenty of time to fully set. Make it the night before and store it in an airtight container on the counter until you’re ready to serve.

Recipe FAQs

How do you make s’mores pretzels without baking?

That’s exactly what this recipe does! No need to bake. Just melt the chocolate in the microwave, fold it with the pretzels, add the graham crackers and marshmallows, and let it chill in the fridge until the chocolate sets.

What can I use instead of dehydrated marshmallows in s’mores snack mix?

Regular mini marshmallows work as a substitute! They are slightly bigger, so they won’t stick as well to the pretzels.

How long does s’mores pretzel snack mix stay fresh?

Stored in an airtight container at room temperature, it’ll stay good for up to a week. In the fridge, it can last up to two weeks, though the pretzels may start to lose some crunch.

Can you freeze s’mores pretzels?

Freezing isn’t recommended for this s’mores pretzel snack mix. The moisture from thawing tends to make the pretzels soft and can cause the chocolate to bloom (develop a white, chalky appearance). It’s best enjoyed within a week at room temperature.

What’s the best chocolate to use for s’mores snack mix?

Semi-sweet chocolate chips are what this recipe was developed with, and they give a nice balanced flavor. If you want something sweeter, go with milk chocolate. If you prefer less sweet and more intense chocolate flavor, dark chocolate chips are a great choice.

Notes

  • I recommend using a blender or food processor to blend the graham crackers into a fine mixture. The finer they are crushed the better they will coat the pretzels.
  • You can find dehydrated marshmallows at most major grocery stores like Walmart. They are most often found on the baking aisle or near the hot chocolate. You can use regular mini marshmallows too, they are just a little bulkier.
  • Your chocolate will set pretty quick if you chill the mix in the fridge, but you can also let it sit on the counter.
  • Once your chocolate has set, you can store your s’mores pretzels on the counter for up to a week or in the fridge for 2 weeks. After that the pretzels start to get a little stale.
  • You can switch things up by using milk or dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate.
  • These pretzels are great sprinkled with a pinch of flakey sea salt. Even though there is salt on the pretzels, a little extra can help cut through the chocolate if you want to make your snack mix a little less sweet.
  • If you’d like you can mix your ingredients in a large ziploc bag. You might need to split things between 2 gallon sized ziploc bags, but that will allow you to shake the ingredients instead of folding them in a mixing bowl.
