Ingredient Notes

Labeled ingredients needed to make million dollar dip recipe.
  • Cream cheese: Create the base of the creamy dip with cream cheese.
  • Sour cream: Add tangy notes and a silkier texture with full-fat sour cream. Replace the sour cream with Greek yogurt for a healthier alternative.
  • Mayonnaise: Make the recipe extra dippable with your favorite brand of mayonnaise.
  • Cheese: Add flavor with shredded cheddar cheese– Shredding the cheese from a block always takes this dip recipe a step further, producing a fresh taste. Use sharp cheddar cheese or regular.
  • Onions: Garnish with chopped green onions and add the whites to the dip for extra flavor.
  • Bacon: Mix in real crumbled bacon pieces for delicious salty and savory notes. Grab a package of real bacon bits from the grocery store or fry bacon strips and chop them for the recipe.
  • Pecans: Add a satisfying crunch with chopped pecans.
  • Red Pepper Flakes: My unique touch to this recipe is adding red pepper flakes to give this recipe a little kick!

Variations and Substitutions

  • Ranch Seasoning: The ultimate add-in for most any dip is ranch seasoning, don’t you think?
  • Different Nuts: Chopped walnuts or slivered almonds are also delicious in this dip recipe.
  • Replace the Bacon: Instead of bacon bits, try smoked salmon or cubed ham.
  • Add More Veggies: Thawed frozen spinach, peppers, and petite diced tomatoes make excellent additions to the Million Dollar Dip.
  • Extra Seasoning: For a slightly different flavor, include red pepper flakes, garlic powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper,  or dried herbs.
  • Swap the Cheese: Use a combination of cheeses or replace the cheddar with provolone, mozzarella, blue cheese, or Colby Jack.

Recipe FAQs

Why is it called Neiman Marcus Dip?

Great question. You see, The original recipe was first served in the 1950s at the Neiman Marcus restaurant in Texas and was later published in Helen Corbitt’s cookbook, the creator of the dip.

What should million-dollar dip be served with?

A popular pick is Ritz Crackers or Club Crackers. You can serve it with other crackers, potato chips, tortilla chips, pretzels, toasted bread, pita chips, bagel chips,  and fresh vegetables, like celery sticks and carrot sticks.

Do I have to use real bacon bits?

Get the best results with a packet of real bacon bits or I used freshly cooked and crumbled bacon. Personally, I do not suggest using a package of bacon bits not made from real bacon because the flavor and texture just don’t measure up.

What is a ‘Million Dollar’ Recipe?

When a recipe has the nick-name ‘Million Dollar,’ you know the flavor will be rich and decadent! There are all kinds of recipes, like Milion Dollar Pie and Million Dollar Brownies, that are known for their incredible taste.
